Swiss luxury hosiery and knitwear brand Fogal, founded in 1921 in Zurich, prides itself on its heritage, finest quality and outstanding craftsmanship. Fogal's Marketing Director, Karina Stump, introduces the brand to Initmoda’s readers.
Karina, please tell us how Fogal began.
Lèon Fogal, son of a sock knitter, established the brand in 1921 and two years later the first Fogal store was opened in Zurich. In 1938 the invention of nylon revolutionized the legwear segment, and Leon Fogal was the very first Swiss importer of this revolutionary legwear. Ever since the 1960s Fogal has become a global player for luxurious leg and knitwear and a synonymous for beauty, elegance and first-class quality.
Where the brand is sold today?
Today Fogal’s presence includes Europe, the US as well as Asia through mono and multibrand retail. Fogal has shops in New York, Hong Kong, Munich, Zurich, and Geneva amongst other cities and is carried by key international department stores such as Bloomingdale's in the USA, KaDeWe in Germany, Mitsukoshi and Daimaru in Japan, or Jelmoli and Globus in Switzerland.
How is the brand present on the Russian market?
Since 2014, Fogal has begun to approach the Russian market and has a small presence there today. The brand is currently planning to penetrate the market more systematically as the Russian market represents great potential. For this we entrusted the brand promotion to Kontatto agency and its owner, Natalia Medved.
Please tell us about your products.
Fogal's product offering consists of two product categories: finest legwear and exclusive knitwear. The brand stands out with its unique color offering and one of Fogal’s key products, the Opaque 138N, comes in more than 40 colors. Another distinctive quality of the brand is their emphasis on «Natural Fibers». Fogal is made in Europe, with key lines such as Caresse, Catwalk, All Nude, Opaque made in Switzerland.
And what about the S/S 2018 collection?
Fogal embodies elegance with a refined twist. Its unique color palette is emphasized not only in its basics, but also in a variety of new summery styles. Happy yellow, fresh azure, spring-like lilac, and pinky rose – the collection represents the fresh lightness of the warmer season. Naturally, patterns continue to feature throughout the collection. In focus are large flower patterns, Sixties inspired designs, playful dots as well as honeycomb and diamond motifs. Natural fibers are a must, particularly for the warmer season. A variety of styles are fabricated with high-quality natural fibers that are not only comfortable, but may also provide a cooling effect.
